Printer Not Connecting to Computer

  1. Restart the printer and computer
Restart both devices to clear temporary connection and discovery errors.
  2. Check the connection type
Confirm whether the printer should connect by WiFi, Ethernet, or USB and make sure that connection is active.
  3. Verify the same network
For wireless printers, make sure the computer and printer are connected to the same router network.
  4. Remove old printer entries
Delete duplicate or old printer entries from Windows Printers & scanners or Mac Printers & Scanners.
  5. Install or update the driver
Install the latest full printer software or driver from the manufacturer’s official support website.
  6. Add the printer again
Use the operating system printer settings to add the printer again after confirming the connection.
  7. Disable VPN temporarily
If a VPN is active, disconnect it during setup because it can hide local network printers from the computer.
  8. Print a test page
Send a test page from the computer to confirm the printer connection is working.

Why is my printer not connecting to my computer?

Common reasons include missing drivers, network mismatch, duplicate printer entries, USB detection problems, or blocked network discovery.

Why does my printer show up on WiFi but not on my computer?

The printer may be connected to the router, but the computer may be on a different network, using VPN, or missing the correct printer driver.

Why is my Mac not finding my printer?

macOS may not find the printer if the printer is offline, not on the same network, or if the printer needs to be re-added in Printers & Scanners.

Why is Windows not detecting my printer?

Windows may need updated printer software, printer discovery permissions, spooler restart, or removal of old printer entries.

Can printer computer connection issues be fixed remotely?

Many driver, software, WiFi, USB setup, and operating system printer connection issues can be reviewed remotely.
